Focus on minimalism – in typology, form and colour

German Design Award 2020

The German Design Award (GDA) has become an indispensable part of the national and international design landscape. During the Ambiente trade fair, the projects and products in the competition set new standards in the fields of product and communication design and architecture.

As in the previous year, we were responsible for the spatial design and gave the renowned exhibition at the Frankfurt Trade Fair and the Museum Angewandte Kunst an impressive appearance. The exclusivity and relevance of the award were also to be reflected in the design of the award ceremony.

Minimalist design elements were used in the stand design as well as in the accompanying graphics and deliberately drew the focus to the award-winning design projects. Long, museum-like podiums presented and structured the various thematic groups. Sloping lines in the spatial design created attractive areas of tension between presentation and rest zones.

Spatial & content-related structure in the MAK

At the Musem für angewandte Kunst, the two new theme groups "Excellent Communication Design" & "Excellent Architecture" were also spatially divided into two blocks. The use of colours true to the GDA branding in white and black, complemented by golden accents, rounded off the elegant, sophisticated look of the exhibition at both locations.
